Turning instruments of war into instruments for peace

PeaceBugle www.peacebugle.org is an international music and film project for peace by Steve Chettle (Kelso meeting) as a response to the violence and destruction of 20th and 21st century war, civil conflict and genocide.

At General Meeting in Inverness on 21st September 2024, UN International Day of Peace, we heard the bugle play a new piece of music entitled FirstPeace created for this project by internationally acclaimed composer and Friend, Sally Beamish. The objective is for it to have the same strong musical identity as the Last Post and to be used in pursuit and support of peace by peaceful means. It has a duration of one minute to echo one minute silences.

FirstPeace is a tool that can be used at peace vigils and rallies and to mark particular events such as International Holocaust Memorial Day, 27 January, and Remembrance Day, 11 November. You can listen to a recording here, see the sheet music, and read more about the project here.
