Exploring Eldership Day 2 March 2024
Glasgow Elders are very pleased to invite all f/Friends, attenders and members, curious and concerned, to an "Exploring Eldership Day" at Glasgow Quaker Meeting House, 10am for 10.30 - 3.30pm Saturday, 2nd March 2024.
We are funding this through Glasgow Meeting´s Spiritual Development Fund, so there is no cost, but donations to the Meeting House are warmly welcome. Our hope is that this day will give us the chance to explore our Quaker worship, and renew our confidence and understanding of how together we hold our worship.
In the morning Rachel Swancott (https://www.woodbrooke.org.uk/people/rachael-swancott/ <https://www.woodbrooke.org.uk/people/rachael-swancott/>), from Woodbrooke Quaker Study Centre, will be leading us on Zoom in a history of eldership and its current use within the Society of Friends. Friends can join in at the Meeting House, or join from home. The Zoom link will be sent out in the week before.
In the afternoon Quaker Scotland's Local Development Worker Zoe Prosser (https://www.quakerscotland.org/our-work/support-for-meetings <https://www.quakerscotland.org/our-work/support-for-meetings>) will help us think about what eldership means to us in our local and area meetings. This will take place in Glasgow Meeting House and Zoe will be with us all day.
The prompt for this day came at a meeting last year amongst Glasgow Elders. We were inspired to ask what exactly is Quaker Eldership? One of our understandings is that Eldership is everyone´s business, but what do local and regional f/Friends feel, and can we say anything about e/Eldership corporately, as a community? Exploring Eldership is what this day is about.
We hope that many will feel moved to attend this day! If you hope to attend in Zoom or in person, please send me zemmoffat [at] gmail.com zemmoffat [at] gmail.com (<mailto:>) an email by Friday 23rd February, so we have an idea of numbers and can make everyone comfortable, however they attend.
