Fàilte Edinburgh Spring update
Fàilte Edinburgh comprises Members and Attenders from three Meetings within South East Scotland Area Meeting and several volunteers from outside Quakers. There are currently ten members in the Core Group. We are committed to helping a refugee family to come and live in Edinburgh and to supporting them throughout their first year’s residence. We are doing this through the UK Government-UNHCR Community Sponsorship Scheme.
After having met with the Refugee Resettlement Officer for City of Edinburgh Council and we submitted our Application in Principle to the Home Office at the end of January, 2022. We have now had our pre-Approval meeting with the Home Office and have been encouraged to submit our Full Application this month.
The lease on a flat will begin at the end of April. The flat will be let unfurnished and there is an inventory of furniture, bed linen, tableware and other items, including a laptop and mobile phone, that we are required to supply. If you would like to view the list to see if there’s anything you could possibly donate please do ask for a copy!
Our bank account is open and donations continue to be most welcome. We are approximately three-quarters of the way towards meeting our projected target, however with the rapidly changing economic situation it is hard for us to budget precisely.
We hope that the family will arrive during the summer, ideally before the Festival begins in August. If you would be interested in joining our team of Volunteers, even on an occasional basis, please contact us at: csfailte [at] gmail.com and we will get back to you with the details.
