Dundee Quakers plan to return "home"
Dundee Quaker Meeting House
Exciting news from Dundee Meeting! As our Meeting House is inaccessible for those with mobility problems and we have had long lease tenants on the ground floor, we have been meeting in an office space round the corner for the past couple of years. A long process of discernment as to our future plans with many discussions, meetings with the Dundee Friends Property Trust, a Threshing meeting, feasibility studies and a Meeting for Clearness, the Spirit has led us to accept the challenge of returning to our home.
When the firm of solicitors who lease the ground floor intimated they were leaving our property in the summer of 2019 it opened the door for ambitious plans to return to the Meeting House - but only after renovation was complete and a lift had been installed. The plans are now complete for a remodelled meeting room on the ground floor, a visible presence from the street, a basement with required facilities and of course a lift!
We have now started fund raising to help raise the amount required. The total cost is estimated to be around £175,000, so with £60,000 earmarked from the Dundee Friends Property Trust reserves and the Trust applying for grants from a number of other sources, a shortfall of around £50,000 will need to be raised locally. We hope you will help us! We already have a number of events planned (watch this space!) but we are appealing for donations to help us realise our aim of returning home to our dearly loved Meeting House which has so much potential, not only for Dundee Quakers but for the community. We are in the centre of the City of Discovery and we would like to be a visible and welcoming part of it. In October 2019 we have now reached 80% of our fundraising target. Thank you to all who have donated. We have now commenced work and hope that it will be finished by the end of February 2019.
To donate please contact our Administrator on dundeequakermeeting [at] hotmail.com for further details and Gift Aid forms if a UK taxpayer to increase the value of your donation. Cheques and CAF vouchers should be made payable to Dundee Friends' Property Trust (property account) and sent to the Administrator, Quaker Meeting House, 7 Whitehall Crescent, Dundee DD1 4AR.
Thank you in anticipation.
